Why Consider a Lower Locking Denture?
Many of our patients come to us frustrated with their lower denture. The most common complaint stems from an ill-fitting denture. Lack of a snug fit affects the foods denture wearers can eat and cause an uncomfortable fit.

Several factors can contribute to an ill-fitting lower denture. When a tooth is extracted, the body perceives this and causes the bone that supported the tooth to be reshaped. Once all the lower teeth are extracted, however, the body eventually begins to absorb the jaw bone as seen in the illustration provided. Bone loss for denture wearers is a normal process, which, over the years, can range all the way up to 60%. Your denture however doesn’t change, resulting in a loose uncomfortable denture.

Another factor is how the majority of dentures are made. Most lower dentures simply don’t engage all available anatomy of the lower jaw, or, in other words, are not made with enough length to attain an intimate fit. This, coupled with a hard material, contributes to the frustration of most lower denture wearers.
